Biographical or Historical Information
“In May 1980, the Commission for Higher Education instructed its staff to study education and training needs in the northwest region of Indiana known as Region One,” comprised of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper, Starke, and Pulaski counties. Purdue University Calumet participated in the study of Region One to “provide a better context for the Commission to carry out its responsibilities for review of new program and budget requests by providing data on the educational and training needs of citizens and organizations in the region.”
The staff study of Region One addressed “student access to post-high school education and training, opportunities for student choice from an array of institutions, programs, and instruction schedules, and the quality of education programs.” The study also included “separate statewide studies of the efficiency of resource use at regional campuses and the contributions of post-high school education to economic development and labor market participation.”
