Scope and Contents
The Administrative records of Student Services collection contains records created and kept by the Assistant Dean for Student Services and the Dean for Student Development in reference to the entire Student Services department as well as divisions overseen by the department. Items include the minutes of the staff meetings, memoranda, reports, and the Assistant Dean’s Information File. The collection also contains records the Counseling, Health, Tutoring Centers, which were overseen by the Student Services departments during this time. The records indicate that they were kept by the Assistant Dean.

Biographical or Historical Information
The Office of Student Affairs at Purdue University Calumet originated as the Student Services department, which was overseen by the Assistant Dean of Student Services. The Student Services department originally managed several services that were provided to the students including General Counseling, Financial Aid, Scholarships, Loans, Housing, Orientation, Automobile Registration, Insurance, Placement, Student Activities, Athletics, and the Division of Conferences and Continuation Services.
Over the years, Student Services delegated some responsibilities to other departments, but took on the supervision of Placement and the Reserve Officer Training Corps by the mid-1970s.
By the 1980s, Student Services changed administrative titles and was overseen by the Dean for Student Development. The department added new divisions to their services and revised the titles of certain services to better accommodate the changing student body. At this time, they managed the Office of the Dean for Student Development, Counseling and Developmental Programs, Career Development and Placement, Student Activities, Health Center, TRIO Programs, Tutoring, Office of Veterans’ Affairs, Weekend College, and the Day Care Center. Also, the Athletics department had changed titles to the Intramural, Athletic, and Recreational Programs.
