The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature collection dates from 1974 to 2010 in 2.5 linear inches and contains memoranda, event flyers, information about the International Film Series and study abroad programs, course offerings, placement exam results, listing of dates, and procedures, and newspaper clippings. In addition, this collection houses three publications that were either sponsored or created by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature including, Voces Vista, the 10^th anniversary edition of Todos Somos Poetas, and Linga-Franca.

Biographical or Historical Information

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature is within the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Purdue University Calumet. Students can minor or receive an Associate in Arts or a Bachelor in Arts in French, Spanish, or International Studies. However, the department has also offered introductory classes in Arabic, Chinese, German, Japanese, Russian, Polish, Hebrew, Italian, Lithuanian, Modern Greek, Portuguese, Serbian-Croatian, Swahili, and Urdu, depending on demand. The Department regularly sponsors Study Abroad programs in Spain and France, enabling students to study, travel, and increase their cultural horizons using the language, culture, and civilization of these countries. The purpose of the programs in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature is to develop students’ competence of in foreign languages and foster respect for cultural differences among peoples.
