Scope and Contents
The Women’s Studies Program collection contains records in five series: SERIES I: PROGRAM RECORDS, 1975-2000 Series I contains the records of the establishment and organization of the program including the Ad hoc Study Committee for Women’s Studies, which document the drafting, revising, and updating the program. The series also includes the records of the Purdue University Calumet Women’s Academic Support Group records, which contain documents pertaining to the establishment of the Women’s Resource Center at Purdue University Calumet. Lastly, the series contains administrative records of the Women’s Studies Program including the Report to the Strategic Planning Committee, records from the North Central Association Self-Study report, course descriptions, a Women’s Studies Student Newsletter from November/December 1997, and Department Approval forms for Continuing Education. SERIES II: COMMITTEES, 1974-1999 Series III contains the records from three subordinate committees within the Women’s Studies Program, including the Faculty Development Committee, the Curriculum Committee, and the Women’s Studies Advisory Committee. In addition, this series includes the records of Purdue University Calumet’s membership in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), which was a Committee comprised of Universities with Women’s Studies Programs. SERIES III: EVENTS, 1975-2001 Series III contains the records of events host and promoted by the Women’s Studies Program at Purdue University Calumet. The bulk of this series is records from the major events including, Women’s History Week/Month, Brown Bag Forums, and Wide World of Women, containing memoranda, correspondence, flyers, receipts, promotional materials, photographs, event planning booklets, and minutes. In addition, this series also contains records from a variety of events such as, “From Betsy Ross to the Woman Boss” Presentation, Women’s Health Fair, High School Days, WOMEN ALIVE! Workshops, Equal Rights Amendment Rally, “Shall I go Back to School?” Workshop, Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party Movie Showing, 1981 [includes photo slides], 40th Anniversary Speakers, 1985, Leadership Northwest Indiana Cultural Diversity Session, 1992-1993, and the International Women’s Day Celebration. Lastly, the series includes miscellaneous planning records for events hosted by the Women’s Studies Program and newspaper clippings. SERIES IV: FINANCIAL RECORDS, 1975-2000 Series IV contains financial records of the Women’s Studies Program including budget, check request, and invoice statements, as well as records from the Shirley Staton Award, formerly called the Shirley Staton Memorial Scholarship. Due to the sensitive nature of the account numbers and students’ social security numbers on their Staton Award applications, this series is closed unless expressly permitted by the Archives Manager. SERIES V: GRANTS, 1976-1992 Series V contains drafts, revisions, notes, research, and papers for submission to grants sponsoring Women’s Studies, such as the National Endowment for the Humanities, Indiana Humanities Council, Affirmative Action Incentive Grants Program, and Indiana Commission for Higher Education. In addition, this series contains records kept by the Women’s Studies Program in preparation for grants including, articles about grant funding, research notes about women in science, a grant listing from the Rockefeller Foundation, and grant listings sent to the Women’s Studies Program by the National Women’s Studies Association.
